Average Age at Adoption
Differing data is available from each of the four nations. However it is clear that on average domestic adoption happens before a child starts reception.
Rates are slightly higher at over 4 in Northern Ireland.
There is no data for the age of intercountry adoptees, although it is suspected the age pattern is similar. Legally most of these children had to remain in care for a significant period in their home country before being available for intercountry adoption thus making the age roughly similar to domestic.
